My feelings are a paradox

“From these foolish embraces, which were not of very frequent occurrence,
I must allow, I used to wish to extricate myself; but my energies seemed
to fail me. Her murmured words sounded like a lullaby in my ear, and
soothed my resistance into a trance, from which I only seemed to recover
myself when she withdrew her arms.
In these mysterious moods I did not like her. I experienced a strange
tumultuous excitement that was pleasurable, ever and anon, mingled with
a vague sense of fear and disgust. I had no distinct thoughts about her
while such scenes lasted, but I was conscious of a love growing into
adoration, and also of abhorrence. This I know is paradox, but I can
make no other attempt to explain the feeling.”

The man full of dark fell for the girl full of light

“Don’t underestimate the allure of darkness. Even the purest hearts are drawn to it. Still, I’m sure it will all be fine.

You’ll never have to loath the darkest parts of yourself that care for me in spite of all I’ve done. I will be gone and you’ll be free. I just want you to be honest with me.

He's your first love. I intend to be your last. However long it takes.

Perhaps one day, in a year or even in a century, you’ll turn up at my door and let me show you what the world has to offer. You mark my words. Small-town boy, small-town life; it won’t be enough for you.

I’ve done more than enough. I’ve shown kindness, forgiveness, pity… because of you, Caroline. It was all for you.

So you’ve never felt the attraction that comes when someone who’s capable of doing terrible things for some reason cares only about you?”

Book of the Week

I've always been very interested in World War II topic, and I love reading books about this historical period. This book is a very well narrated story about the search of the truth. I cried like a baby in some parts, maybe because it is a really sad book, or maybe because I get emotional very easy with this topic, the truth be told.

“Michel. In my dreams, you come and get me. You take me by the hand and you lead me away. This life is too much for me to bear. I look at the key and I long for you and for the past. For the innocent, easy days before the war. I know now my scars will never heal. I hope my son will forgive me. He will never know. No one will ever know.”

Paris, July 1942: Sarah, a ten year-old girl, is brutally arrested with her family by the French police in the Vel' d'Hiv' roundup, but not before she locks her younger brother in a cupboard in the family's apartment, thinking that she will be back within a few hours.

Paris, May 2002: On Vel' d'Hiv's 60th anniversary, journalist Julia Jarmond is asked to write an article about this black day in France's past. Through her contemporary investigation, she stumbles onto a trail of long-hidden family secrets that connect her to Sarah. Julia finds herself compelled to retrace the girl's ordeal, from that terrible term in the Vel d'Hiv', to the camps, and beyond. As she probes into Sarah's past, she begins to question her own place in France, and to reevaluate her marriage and her life.

The Lost World of Yangshuo

Yangshuo County  is a county under the jurisdiction of Guilin City, in the northeast of Guangxi, China. It's seat is located in Yangshuo Town. Surrounded by karst peaks and bordered on one side by the Li River it is easily accessible by bus or by boat from nearby Guilin. In the 1980s, the town became popular with foreign backpackers, and by the late 1990s packaged tourists began arriving in greater numbers. At that time, domestic tourism represented only a small fraction of the tourists but by 2005 domestic tourists outnumbered foreign tourists by a great margin. Today, the town has become a resort destination for both domestic and foreign travelers.

Humanity

“I never answered your question, if I’d ever thought about being human. Once. I was on a track in the andes, and a hummingbird flew up to me and just hovered there staring at me. Its tiny heart was pattering like a machine gun… And I thought, ‘what a thing, you know, to have to work that hard every day just to stay alive, to be constantly on the verge of death, and how satisfying every day must be that it survived…’ And that was the only time I thought about being human.”

The universe can't come between us

''No one tells me how I live my life, no one tells me who I love, and definitely not the universe. And I'm not going to let someone else's idea of destiny stop me from loving you or building a future with you... Because you are my life.''

You possess my soul and body

“You are too generous to trifle with me. If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes are unchanged, but one word from you will silence me on this subject forever.”

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

If your feelings are still what they were last April, tell me so at once. My affections and wishes have not changed, but one word from you will silence me forever. If, however, your feelings have changed, I will have to tell you: you have bewitched me, body and soul, and I love, I love, I love you. I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.

Book of the Week

This is, by far, my favorite book. Once I read that if a book doesn't deserve a second reading, then neither deserved the first one, and I read this book many times, because it deserved, and I'm sure I'll read it again many times in the future. One of the things I love most about The Name of the Wind is that no matter how many times I read it, the story always catchs me like the first time, even though I know what will happen, I find myself lost in its pages, eager to continue reading, unable to leave Patrick Rothfuss world.

“It's like everyone tells a story about themselves inside their own head. Always. All the time. That story makes you what you are. We build ourselves out of that story.”

So begins the tale of Kvothe—from his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. In these pages you will come to know Kvothe as a notorious magician, an accomplished thief, a masterful musician, and an infamous assassin. But The Name of the Wind is so much more—for the story it tells reveals the truth behind Kvothe's legend.

Change is the essence of life

''Times change and so must I.
We all change. When you think about, it we’re all different people all through our lives and that’s OK. That’s good. Gotta keep it moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be.''

Every book has a soul

“Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens.”

The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón
